I haven't updated my n8n instance for half a year (currently on 1.108.2). If I update directly to the latest version now, will it cause issues with the existing nodes in my workflows? If I want to update, is there a more conservative approach to ensure I don't run into major problems after the update?

Hello! Updating directly from 1.108.2 to the latest version (currently 2.x) carries some risks, as n8n introduced major changes in v2 (database schema changes).

Recommended conservative update approach:

Back up your PostgreSQL database first (do this in the database service on the Dashboard).
Try updating to the latest 1.x version first (e.g., 1.130.0) and confirm that all workflows are working correctly.
Once confirmed, follow the official n8n upgrade guide to upgrade to v2: https://docs.n8n.io/hosting/upgrade-n8n/

Alternatively, you can redeploy a new instance using our latest n8n template and export/import your workflows, which is safer.

If issues arise after the update, you can restore using the backed-up database. Never skip the backup step!
