Quotas & Overage Billing
Every Zeabur Email account has a monthly sending quota determined by your Zeabur plan. Sending within your quota is free. On the Pro and Team plans, sending beyond your quota is allowed and billed as overage; on other plans, sending is blocked once the quota is reached.
Zeabur Email is not available on the Free Plan. To send email you need at least the Dev Plan.
Monthly Sending Quota
| Plan | Monthly Quota | Daily Quota | Overage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Not available | — | — |
| Dev | 3,000 emails | 100 emails/day | Not supported |
| Pro | 50,000 emails | Unlimited | Supported |
| Team | 100,000 emails | Unlimited | Supported |
Your quota resets at the start of each monthly billing cycle. Both the quota you’ve used and the amount remaining are shown in the Zeabur Email dashboard.
What Happens When You Reach Your Quota
- Dev plan — Sending is blocked once you hit your daily or monthly quota. The API returns
429 Too Many Requests. You can still query email history; sending resumes when the quota resets. - Pro / Team plans — Sending continues past your monthly quota and the extra emails are billed as overage (see below), up to a hard cap. Once the hard cap is reached, sending is blocked until the next billing cycle.
When sending is blocked for quota reasons, the API returns 429 Too Many Requests with a message such as quota exceeded (current/total), resets at <time>. See the REST API Reference for the error format.
How Overage Is Priced
Overage applies only to the Pro and Team plans and is automatic — there is nothing to opt into.
- Price: US$0.90 per 1,000 emails sent beyond your monthly quota.
- Billed per bucket: Overage is counted in buckets of 1,000 emails, and each started bucket is billed in full (rounded up). Sending even one email past your quota bills one full bucket.
- Hard cap: Overage is capped at 5× your monthly quota. Once your total monthly sends reach the cap, sending is blocked until the next billing cycle.
| Plan | Monthly Quota | Overage Hard Cap (5×) | Max Overage Charge / cycle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | 50,000 | 250,000 | 200 buckets × $0.90 = $180.00 |
| Team | 100,000 | 500,000 | 400 buckets × $0.90 = $360.00 |
Example. You are on the Pro plan (50,000/month quota) and send 50,003 emails in a cycle. That’s 3 emails over quota → 1 bucket → $0.90 of overage for that cycle.
How Overage Is Billed
Overage is not added to your regular subscription invoice. At the end of each billing cycle, Zeabur freezes that cycle’s total overage and charges it as a separate, one-time invoice to the payment method on file. No action is required from you.
When Overage Is Paused
- Failed payment — If an overage invoice fails to charge, overage is paused. You can keep sending within your base monthly quota, but additional overage is disabled until the outstanding invoice is resolved.
- Plan change — If you leave the Pro or Team plan (for example, downgrading to Dev), overage is disabled. Any overage already accrued in the current cycle is still settled.
FAQ
Is overage opt-in? No. On Pro and Team plans it is automatic. There is no per-user toggle to turn it on or off.
Does the daily quota apply to Pro and Team? No. Pro and Team have an unlimited daily quota — only the monthly quota and the overage hard cap apply.
When exactly am I charged for overage? At the end of the billing cycle, as a separate one-time invoice — not on your normal subscription charge.
What if I never exceed my quota? You are never charged for overage. Sending within your monthly quota is always free.
